Clark University hosted the 7th Global Conference on Economic Geography—a quadrennial gathering of leading scholars in the field during June 4–8, 2025.

At the May 2025 meeting in Innsbruck, Dr. Emlyn Yang (LMU) was elected as one of three new spokespersons for the Working Group on Natural Hazards and Risks.

International Climate Resilience Conference at LMU Munich, Germany, 26-29 October 2025

From 27 April to 2 May 2025, the STORIES project members Dr. Liang Emlyn Yang, Ms. Anqi Zhu, Mr. Wenhan Feng, Mr. Thanh Phuoc Ho and Mr. Hao Su from LMU Munich actively participated in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria. This event is one of the premier global gatherings for geoscientists, particularly in the field of climate resilience.

Building on the success of the first field trip in November 2024, Prof. Matthias Garschagen, Dr. Liang Emlyn Yang, and Mr. Thanh Phuoc Ho from LMU Munich visited the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong) at Can Tho University in March 2025. The LMU and DRAGON-Mekong teams held a productive discussion meeting and conducted a household survey.

We are delighted to announce the International Climate Resilience Conference, which will take place on the 26th to 29th October 2025. The conference will be hosted at the Ludwig Maximillian University of Munich (LMU), located in the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.

The International Workshop on Urbanization and Sustainable Water Management was successfully held on November 4-5, 2024, at the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Stiftung in Munich. The workshop was organized by Dr. Olabisi S. Obaitor and co-organized by Dr. Liang Emlyn Yang, in collaboration with the IAHS Urban Water Working Group.

In November 2024, Dr. Liang Emlyn Yang and Thanh Phuoc Ho from LMU Munich visited the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong) at Can Tho University, Vietnam.

In September 2024, a team from LMU Munich’s Department of Geography, led by Prof. Matthias Garschagen, visited China and took part in two workshops held in Beijing and Shanghai from September 24-28.

Siying Chen and Mei Ai participated in the 35th International Geographical Congress (IGC) 2024.

The International Workshop on Climate-Resilient Development in Southeast Asia, held at Harvard in July 2024, gathered experts to explore strategies for enhancing climate resilience across key sectors.

Siying Chen, Mei Ai and Christine Heinzel attended the General Assembly 2024 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), which was held at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna, Austria, from 14–19 April 2024.

The Congress of American Association of Geographers (AAG) 2024 started on April 16, 2024 at Honolulu, Hawai'i. Dr. Emlyn Yang and Mr. Wenhan Feng attended the conference, chaired two sessions and presented research results about STORIES.

STORIES project and Harvard University will convene an International workshop on Climate-resilient development in Southeast Asia at Harvard University, USA, on July 25-26, 2024

Dr. Emlyn Yang, Wenhan Feng and Christine Heinzel attended the 62. German Geography Congress (Deutscher Kongress für Geographie, DKG), which took place from September 19 to 23 at Frankfurt University in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.

Wenhan participated in the Complex Networks Summer School at the University of Oxford, the Computational Social Science Summer School at Huazhong Agricultural University, the Annual Conference of the Asian Social Simulation Association in Wuhan, the Social Simulation Conference 2023 in Glasgow and the Behave ABM Summer School in Brescia, Italy.

In August 2023, Dr. Emlyn Yang, Wenhan Feng and Christine Heinzel from LMU Munich visited the STORIES project partners in China to jointly conduct the first fieldwork phase of the project.

The Congress of European Geosciences Union (EGU) 2023 started on Monday April 24, 2023 at the Austria Center, Vienna. Dr. Emlyn Yang attended the conference, chaired a session and presented research results about household flood responses. Mr. Wenhan Feng presented his study on agent-based model.

STORIES has officially started on April 01, 2023! A kickoff meeting was held in hybrid mode on April 06, 2023, where all the project members in Munich, Chengdu and Kunming participated.

The European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) was organizing a training conference for ERC Principle Investigators in collaboration with the German National Contact Point. Dr. Emlyn Yang attended the meeting and discussed various project management issues with over 100 other ERC project PIs.
